Cleaner Production Tools -- Codes of Practice [ Description | Links ] Codes of Practice are systematic collections of principles or rules describing accepted or desirable professional or operating practice. They are not law, but may form the basis for laws and regulations. Codes for Practice are usually specific to an industry or sector, and provide guidance on such issues as resource usage, emissions, waste generation and disposal, occupational or health hazards, and regulatory standards. Codes of Practice may also include industry 'best practice' guidelines and benchmarks for measuring environmental progress. They can guide individual firms in implementing environmental improvements. Codes of Practice are usually established by a national government in consultation with industry. ŠNDRC 2000-2006 |
