Gender Equality Strategy

GOAL

To promote increased participation of women at decision-making levels and in technical specialties among the Project’s partner agencies and enterprises

OBJECTIVES

  • Increase awareness of gender issues and support for women’s full participation in the workforce

  • Achieve identified targets for women’s participation in project activities

  • Increase the self-confidence and motivation of women employed in the factories

TARGETS

Training programs for Chinese counterparts:

  • Policy and management training for senior officers 25%

  • General management training30%

INITIAL STRATEGIES

  1. Appoint a Local Gender Equality Consultant to provide support to the factories in raising awareness of gender issues, increasing women’s self-confidence and meeting project targets for women’s participation.

  2. Work with the factories to develop their own gender equality objectives and workplans

  3. Develop Gender Equality Working Groups within the factories to promote women’s status and participation. Begin by working with representatives of the Trade Union, the Youth League and female representatives of the Workers’ Congress

  4. Develop support at the provincial level through a Provincial Gender Equality Officer.

  5. Develop relationships and support with the municipal and provincial branches of the Women’s Federation

  6. Provide advice to Canadian Project Team members on gender integration in their work

  7. Monitor results
