The National Development and Reform Commission

Description

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) is a department of the State Council.  NDRC is macro-economic regulatory department, with a mandate to develop national economic strategies, long term economic plans and annual plans, and to report on the national economy and social development to the National People's Congress. NDRC has fourteen major areas of responsibility, one of which is China's sustainable development strategy, which includes cleaner production and pollution prevention. The important aspects of NDRC's mandate and responsibilities in the context of cleaner production/pollution prevention as described in NDRC's web site are:

  • advancement of China's sustainable development strategy;

  • research and preparation of drafts into the comprehensive utilization and conservation of resources;

  • coordinate the establishment of a plan for rebuilding China's ecology;

  • policy creation for the comprehensive utilization and conservation of resources;

  • coordinate vital issues related to the rebuilding of the ecology and the comprehensive utilization and conservation of resources;

  • coordination of the environmental protection industry.
