The Taiyuan Twin-Tower Aluminum Oxide Co. (TTAO) is a multi-product group which produces brown fused aluminum and by-products. TTAO employs about 1100 people. It exports to the U.S., Canada, Australia, Germany, Italy, Japan and Hong Kong - (about $15 million US in 1998.)
TTAO initiated CP activities in 1998, with the support of the Taiyuan municipal government. For example, it replaced 2 Higgins furnaces with a tilt-pour fusion furnace, and began using gas fuel to replace old boilers, which were a serious cause of pollution. These improvements improved production time and product quality as well as reduced energy consumption. Other modifications included pre-crushing the ore at the quarry to reduce dust, and adding electric dust collectors.
TTAO received its ISO 14001 certification in November 1999.
